Burlesque (Not the Movie)

Hey sista, go sista, soul sista, flow sista
Hey sista, go sista, soul sista, go sista

Sorry for that intro. Every time Burlesque is mentioned, I always think of the Lady Marmalade song with Pink, Christina Aguilera, and the other two who names escape me. Why don’t I use the internet to look it up? Because I am lazy and choose not to.

So last Saturday (1/26/19) my friend had her Burlesque show, with her first solo performance. She is part of a group called the White Lies Burlesque Revue, which is the first burlesque revue in Seoul (and possible Korea). Their information can be found here. We found out about this group at Seoul Comic Con last year, and she always mentioned about talking with them and joining.

So, my friend joined a couple months ago and she had to train with them a little bit. So their process is basically, group number, duet (or trio), than solo performance. So she had her first solo performance. As a friend, I had to go support her (mainly because she asked.) As a bi-sexual guy, this isn’t my sort of thing, but you do it because friends need support. Also, because that means they owe you one and have to support your endeavors too. HAHA!

For those of you who aren’t in the know, Burlesque is kind of like stripping but not exactly the same thing. As a male, I might not be the best person to explain it.

So each showing (sometimes weekly, sometimes monthly) their shows have themes and the girls create costumes that relate to the theme. The most recent theme was ‘Nerdy Nostalgia’ which is basically anything that is part of nerd culture. My friend did routine inspired by Harry Potter and the Parody song “Sorted this Way.” There were other costumes as well, such as Yuna from Final fantasy X, The Power Puff Girls, and even a robot. As some one who loves cosplay (and would love to go back to doing it again one day) I enjoyed the costumes.

Wish I got a pic with the robot and that this girl didn’t block my shot. The robot coming to life as a woman was one of the best performances.

Now photos are not allowed. So I don’t have much to show. All I can say, it was quite an experience. One I wouldn’t do on my own. However, I can’t say no to a friend. No matter what I may think or feel. I am a weird person. You know this.

Until next time,

Peace!
