Until some of the negative rhetoric is removed, we will likely remain so deeply divided.

It has long been said that people view a glass as either half empty or half full – which is meant to indicate whether you are a pessimist or an optimist. In reality, 50% is always half, which may be lost for those on social media this week.

On Wednesday, a USA Today / Suffolk University poll found that 50% of Americans now predict history will judge President Trump as a “failed” president. Most actual historians would say that knowing how history will judge Trump is simply impossible since the enduring effects of his policies are unknown.

The story was generally more favorable after a president left the White House. Presidents Ford, Carter and both Bushes were not seen in the most positive light immediately after their respective departures from the Oval Office, but they are all seen far more favorably now.

Of course, it didn’t take long for the comments to be posted on social media – and social media once again showed how divided the nation is, with many expressing their contempt for the president while others offering their continued support.

Some of the comments were downright hateful, with comments like those from @RepublicanSwine, “50% of Americans. I know there are 74 million people who support a downright criminal and totally degenerate POTUS. That means there are 74 million Americans I want . Have nothing to do. “

Others saw it differently, including @SheepDogSociety: “Well, now we know that” 50% of Americans “are being brainwashed by the left. And we all know the numbers are up and their polls are fake !! Thank you @POTUS !! “

With this in mind, let the healing and unity begin!

How can there be any kind of healing if such comments continue to circulate on social media? The answer, of course, is that we will continue to see a divided country with utter disdain for the other half. It also highlights the fact that such polls are only used to throw gasoline on a wild fire and provoke such reactions.

Mission accomplished.

At least some have shed light on the survey results. @AlbyWeiser was among those who suggested, “50% of Americans are just as dumb as the other 50%.”

@Crystal_Monroe suggested, “I don’t care how long Twitter trending 50% of Americans. Nobody believes these fake polls.”

The other 50%

Of course, when “50% of Americans” started trend-setting it was picked up in a way that had nothing to do with President Trump or the elections, but which showed contempt for politicians in general.

Ye4us (@ ye4us), dubbed the “Official Plug Kayne West Presidential Campaign” on Twitter, may have best summed up the situation: “50% of Americans would be happy to never say” Democrat “or” Republican “again Listen.”

@ThePoppedArts had a similar feeling: “50% of Americans hate #Congress. The other 50% despise it. #Votethemallout #CongressIsAJoke”

And it wasn’t just politics that proclaimed “50%” of the population.

MuslimMarine (@mansoortshams) took the time to answer another recent poll: “According to PEW, over 50% of Americans say they’ve never met a Muslim. That’s crazy! PS: Here are some they absolutely must.” should meet. You serve and protect America. “

Investment strategist Charles Swope (@PFSinvesments) tweeted, “More than 50% of Americans gave themselves a personal financial grade of A or B in a recent poll. Hope you get the grade, but there were some disturbing ones in the same Equifax poll Facts. “

@qgenics said news it would like to hear: “Less than 50% of Americans have waist, glucose and blood pressure readings in their optimal ranges.”

And maybe to get everyone in the Christmas spirit, there was the tweet from @AdmiralOPG: “50% of Americans agree that It’s A Wonderful Life is a garbage movie and must go.”

With the exception of the actual Pew and Equifax surveys, most of these examples are not scientific. We don’t really know if half the country hates It’s A Wonderful Life or if it despises Congress. In the latter case, half of the country is likely to give too little thought to government.

However, all of this shows again that more and more parts of the country see the country and even the world as a glass that is not only half empty, but filled with something that nobody would drink anyway! Until some of the negative rhetoric is removed, we will likely remain so deeply divided.
