The Brandweek Sports Marketing Summit brings the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, Nascar, and multiple esports leagues together to discuss how athletes have dealt with a year of unpredictable playing times, from fanless games to months of teamwork -Bubbles designed to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
To encourage more diversity in the world of sports marketing and empower the next generation of sports leaders, seven CMOs and sports league leaders are each sponsoring 10 students from prominent sports schools across the country to attend the summit. Ticket prices that typically cost $ 479 for professionals.
Sports marketing executives also offered to host a private mentoring session for the students at the end of daily events for unprecedented insights into the industry and advice on career development.
Attending mentors include NFL CMO Tim Ellis, NBA CMO Kate Jhaveri, WWE Chief Brand Officer Stephanie McMahon, NASCAR CMO Jill Gregory, MLS SVP for Branding and Marketing David Bruce, MLB SVP Barbara Mchugh, and CMO Adam Grossman from Boston Red Sox. They are all part of the Sports Unite group that led the Real Heroes Project earlier this year, bringing together sports leagues and brands to honor medical workers on the front lines of the pandemic.
The sponsored students attend graduate schools at the University of South Florida, University of Central Florida, University of Oregon, Columbia University, Ohio University, University of Massachusetts Amherst, Penn State University, and Johnson and Wales University.
“This program represents some of the best talent who will soon be leading organizations,” said Cory Bernstein, United Soccer Leagues LLC senior director of strategy and Adweek executive mentee. As an associate professor, Bernstine recognized the need to give students better access to executives in sports marketing and brought his idea to Adweek.
“I’ve seen the power of the community firsthand and I’m delighted that this group continues to grow and lead by example,” said Bernstine.
The summit will feature segments with CAA & CAA Sports Strategy and Development Director Arlesha Amazan, Deputy Commissioner to National Lacrosse Leader Jessica Berman, EVP of Visa Inc. and Marketing and Communications Director Lynne Biggar, Marketing Department of Philadelphia 76ers Brittanie Boyd and many other industries featured leaders. It will also preview fixtures for upcoming seasons in the NBA, MLB, NHL, and sports.
