A large number of I Voted stickers and buttons were stuck on the window

The most important thing you can do this week is voting. Porn can wait. That’s the message from Pornhub today as it joins a wide variety of industries pushing citizens to vote in record numbers. No voting, no porn. At least that’s the implication.

I’m going to repeat myself a bit starting this morning, but it’s worth repeating. The early voting numbers are excellent this year, especially given the 2016 non-voters who are popping up in droves. All of this is optimistic despite active efforts to suppress voters, intimidate voters and GOP factions that are literally trying to cast votes. What kind of democracy is it when a party actively tries to prevent people from voting?

Regardless, porn is here to save us. Once again.

Pornhub’s “Give AF ** k, Get AF ** k” campaign is simple. Vote and you can watch porn. Don’t vote and you can still watch porn as there is no viable way to prove that a user has voted before accessing a website. Basically, Pornhub users in the US are greeted by an overlay page on election day reminding them to vote before watching porn. Priorities people, priorities. Voting is our responsibility as citizens of the United States. Poll. Do it. Then check out porn. If you’ve already voted, check out porn.

While the intent of Pornhub’s campaign is reasonable, it can either be the boost voters need or a moot point. As mentioned earlier, the early voting numbers will be jacked up this year. According to the US election project, around 43% of eligible voters (around 100 million people) did not vote in 2016. Early voting records are being set every day this year, and it is hoped that many of those non-voters will take action to drop the highest turnout of this century.

Pornhub is running a social campaign with videos from popular models like Asa Akira, Domino Presley, Natassia Dreams, Janice Griffith, Lance Hart, Soverign Syre and Lotus Laine. They will reiterate the unenforceable message that if you don’t vote, you can’t watch porn. It is more an attempt to improve the voting, because here too there is no way of actually locking out non-voters.

Pornhub’s “Give AF ** k, Get AF ** k” campaign is a collaboration with Just For Fun, a creative agency.

“In 2016, over 100 million eligible voters had zero f ** ks to vote. To encourage everyone to get off the couch and go to the polling stations, we knew we had to meet them where it hurts – their pants, ”said a spokesman for Just For Fun.

This campaign is a step back from Pornhub’s election-related activities in 2016, where it delved deep into the election. Users overall preferred Sanders as the top contender, and we all know how that turned out to be. A lighter touch seems appropriate as this year is not a battle between two political parties, but between democracy and authoritarianism. What doesn’t seem to divide voters this year, either, is their propensity for porn.

If you haven’t voted at the time of reading, buckle up your boots and vote by the end of polling day. Then return home, buckle your boot straps, and ease your anxiety about the porn while Rome burns outside your window.
