Shopping carts make shopping in physical stores easier, and WhatsApp hopes the shopping cart feature launched globally on Tuesday will do the same for online shoppers.

WhatsApp said in a blog post on Tuesday that users who send messages to companies on their platform offering multiple products, browse those companies’ catalogs, select multiple products, and send their list as a single order in one message.

Not only does this make the process easier for customers, it also enables companies to track orders and inquiries, manage inquiries, and close sales.

Using WhatsApp shopping carts is basically the same process as shopping on traditional ecommerce websites:

  • While on a deal in a chat, tap the catalog button to access its offers.
  • Browse the catalog and tap “Add to Cart” to purchase items.
  • Send the shopping cart to the company to place the order. This is only final once the company has confirmed it.

According to WhatsApp, more than 175 million people send business accounts on its platform every day and more than 40 million catalogs every month. A recent survey found that 68% of adults worldwide are more likely to do business with or buy from a company through messaging.

Facebook’s own messaging application also added a Carts sticker to their Open for Business sticker pack.
